McAllister on Iran conflict: A regional war in the Middle East must be avoided at all costs
The Chair of the European Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs (AFET), David McAllister (EPP, Germany), issued a statement regarding the escalation of the military conflict in Iran and the broader developments across the Middle East.
“The developments across the Middle East are unprecedented,” McAllister stated. He recalled that for years the AFET committee has called for an end to the oppression exercised by the Iranian regime against its own people and for the cessation of its malicious activities carried out through proxy forces in the region.
McAllister also expressed solidarity with the European Union’s regional partners. According to his statement, Israel, Jordan and Gulf countries have become targets of Iranian attacks in retaliation for U.S. strikes on Tehran and other locations across the country.
He concluded by calling for “maximum restraint”, stressing that a regional war in the Middle East must be avoided “at all costs.”
