The Twinning Ceremony of the Medical Association of Kos, the Athens Medical Association, and the Hellenic Medical Society of New York was held with great success at the Hippocratic Foundation of Kos, as part of the 2025 Hippocratic Week.
This event marked a highlight of a week dedicated to the Hippocratic Ideal, the unity of the medical community, and the connection between science and humanism.
Against the historic backdrop of the birthplace of rational medicine, the three Associations signed a Twinning Agreement, laying the foundation for a Network of Twinned Medical Associations between Greece and the Greek Diaspora. The agreement aims to promote scientific collaboration, continuing medical education, research, and medical innovation.
During the ceremony, Kos was celebrated as the symbolic birthplace of Hippocrates—the place where medicine was first associated with ethics, reason, and respect for human life.
The Twinning Agreement was signed by:
- Dr. Stella Douros, Secretary of the Hellenic Medical Society of New York, representing the Society’s President
- Dr. Georgios Patoulis, President of the Athens Medical Association
- Dr. Katerina Gavala, President of the Medical Association of Kos
The presence of institutional representatives and scientists from Greece and abroad gave the initiative an international dimension, highlighting the Hippocratic tradition as a bridge of cooperation between Greece and the Diaspora.
The Hippocratic Week concluded with the swearing-in ceremony of new physicians, a deeply moving moment that reaffirmed the enduring value of the Hippocratic Oath and the legacy of the Father of Medicine.
Once again, Kos affirmed its role as a global landmark of medical thought, and as a meeting point of science, history, and humanity.
As emphasized by the representatives of the associations, this twinning is not only an institutional act but also the starting point for joint initiatives that will strengthen ties between Greece and the Diaspora in the field of health, in the spirit of Hippocrates.
