Historic Donation Elevates Kalymnos Hospital to the Forefront of Medical Technology in Greece
KALYMNOS, June 25, 2026 – A major milestone for healthcare in the Dodecanese was reached on June 24, 2026, as the General Hospital – Health Center of Kalymnos “Vouvaleio” officially received a state-of-the-art GE Healthcare Voluson Signature 18 ultrasound system.
The advanced ultrasound unit, valued at €59,500, was generously donated by Minerva Marine Inc., the shipping company of renowned Greek shipowner Mr. Andreas Martinos.
The Voluson Signature 18, configured at the Expert level, represents one of the most advanced ultrasound platforms available, significantly enhancing the hospital’s diagnostic capabilities through exceptional imaging quality and improved clinical performance across multiple medical specialties.
According to the hospital administration, Vouvaleio Hospital has become the first hospital in Greece to operate a GE Voluson Signature 18 ultrasound system at the Expert configuration level, placing the institution among the country’s most technologically advanced public healthcare facilities.
The acquisition is expected to dramatically improve healthcare services for the residents of Kalymnos as well as patients from neighboring islands who rely on the hospital for specialized medical care. The new equipment will contribute to faster, more accurate diagnoses while reducing the need for patient transfers to larger medical centers.
Hospital officials expressed their sincere gratitude to Minerva Marine Inc. and Mr. Andreas Martinos for their generous contribution, describing the donation as a significant investment in the health and well-being of the island communities of the southeastern Aegean.
