It is truly puzzling, according to the Provincial Medical Association of Kalymnos (ISEK), that the directive of the Minister of Health, Adonis Georgiadis, was unexpectedly bypassed by the administration of the 2nd Regional Health Authority (2nd RHA). What could be the rationale behind such a reaction? Who might have had a motive to obstruct the staffing of the Kalymnos Hospital? And what would they stand to gain from this?
Was it simply an oversight? If so, let it be corrected.

During the visit of the Minister of Health, Mr. Adonis Georgiadis, to Kalymnos on August 6, 2025, the President of the Provincial Medical Association of Kalymnos, Mr. Gerasimos Apostolatos, proposed the announcement of a Director-level Internal Medicine position at the local hospital. Following an intervention, the Minister agreed to the creation of a Consultant A position in Internal Medicine to be announced in October. However, it was later reported that this position was removed in a recent email, contrary to the Minister’s directive.
Furthermore, it is highlighted that the position of Director of Cardiology has remained vacant for over three years, affecting the proper functioning of the department. A Consultant A position in Pulmonology-Tuberculosis is also requested, since the current Director serves exclusively in the Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Unit. The Medical Association urges the reconsideration of decisions regarding upcoming job postings at the Kalymnos hospital.
