Mitsotakis on Vagia Nestora’s Death: “Zero Tolerance for Terrorism and Blind Violence”
Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has issued a strong condemnation of terrorism and political violence following the death of Vagia Nestora, the mother of New Democracy political candidate Afroditi Nestora, who was fatally injured during an arson attack on the home of a New Democracy party official in Thessaloniki.
In a statement, the Prime Minister described her tragic death as confirmation of the “murderous and inhumane nature of blind violence in public life,” stressing that there is no longer any room for indifference or merely symbolic condemnations.
“Zero tolerance for bloodshed and extremist division,” he declared, calling on both the State and society to isolate terrorism and defend the rule of law, democracy, and national unity.
Mr. Mitsotakis also noted that Greece has worked hard to achieve both its economic recovery and the healing of past political divisions, emphasizing that “the country will never go backwards.” He stated that stability, security, and justice are fundamental pillars of democracy and affirmed that his government will remain “on the front line of this battle.”
Concluding his statement, the Prime Minister expressed his condolences to the victim’s family, Afroditi Nestora, her father, and their loved ones, as well as to the New Democracy members affected by the attack. He stressed that “our grief will become strength and determination” and vowed that nothing would halt Greece’s progress forward.
