3rd Festival of the Sponge Diver – Dirlanda Musical-Narrative Event: “Sponge Diver Memories”
On Sunday, July 27, 2025, at 8:00 PM, a unique musical-narrative event will take place at the Open-Air Theater of Chora, Kalymnos, dedicated to the sponge divers of Kalymnos — pioneers of our island’s maritime heritage.
Through storytelling, music, and dance, we will honor the memory and contributions of those who braved the seas with courage, self-sacrifice, and relentless effort.
The event will feature traditional dance performances by the Lyceum Club of Greek Women, enhancing the cultural dimension of the evening and highlighting Kalymnos’ deep connection with the sea, tradition, and the arts.
Our sponge divers will recount salty, soul-stirring memories — tales of struggle and bravery that form an essential part of our identity and collective memory.
The event is curated and presented by our three-member organizing committee: Ioannis Nomikarios, Anna Tsoulfa, and Ioannis Karamalis, along with the invaluable support of dozens of volunteers.
We warmly invite everyone to join us for an evening of remembrance, honor, and deep emotion.
