Kalymnos Honours Giannis Maglis
A new edition of Giannis Maglis’ landmark novel My Brothers, Mankind (T’ Aderfia mou oi Anthropoi) was presented on Monday, 3 August 2026, at the open-air theatre of Agios Panteleimonas in Kalymnos, during a special evening dedicated to the distinguished Kalymnian author and his enduring literary legacy.
The event was held under the auspices of the Municipality of Kalymnos and organised by the publishing house Synchroni Epochi, together with the Initiative Group for the Promotion of Giannis Maglis’ Work.
Speakers addressing the author’s life, personality and literary contribution included his son, Leonidas Maglis; poet Sakellaris Kampouris; educator and Mayor of Kalymnos Giannis Mastrokoukos; Markos Skordos–Mougros, representing the Initiative Group; Sevasti Kosmopoulou from Synchroni Epochi; and philologist and poet Maria Chatzichristodoulou.
Also taking the floor were Konstantinos Maglis, on behalf of the Second Association of Secondary Education Teachers of the Dodecanese; Sakellaris Maillis, representing the Labour Centre of the Northern Dodecanese; and Rozy Skylla, legal counsel for Synchroni Epochi.
The evening was hosted by educator Maria Riga, while actor Dimitris Kopanezos, a member of the Kalymnos Theatre Group, read selected passages from the book, bringing its characters to life and highlighting the author’s timeless and profoundly human messages.
The musical programme was arranged by Lefteris Saroukos and Angeliki Vasilakopoulou–Roussou, adding a fitting melodic dimension to an evening devoted to remembrance, literature and culture.
