Parking in Myrties has become a daily ordeal, with residents and visitors desperately searching for an available space and several motorists receiving fines while essential road signage remains inadequate.
Although a municipal car park operates in the settlement, the sign indicating its location is not clearly visible to motorists travelling from Masouri towards Myrties. It can be seen more easily by those approaching from the opposite direction. As a result, many visitors drive past without realising that a municipal parking area is available nearby.
At the same time, there appears to be insufficient signage clearly indicating parking restrictions in either direction. This creates confusion, with drivers parking without being adequately informed of the restrictions and subsequently receiving fines.
According to a Kalymnos Times report, the Kalymnos Police Administration has contacted the Technical Service of the Municipality of Kalymnos in writing, requesting that the necessary road signs be installed. The reported intervention followed numerous complaints from motorists who say the signage is inadequate and describe the resulting fines as unfair.
According to the same information, the Municipal Technical Service replied that it did not have the required signs available. Consequently, the problem remains unresolved.
Following an especially stressful summer for motorists across the island, finding a parking space in Myrties has become a genuine nightmare. Making the municipal car park clearly visible and installing proper parking-restriction signs are now urgent necessities.
Drivers should not be expected to guess where parking is permitted, nor should they face fines because of a problem that could be addressed with a small number of properly positioned road signs.
