Memorial event for the “Petropolemos” took place in Kalymnos on Palm Sunday
The Municipality of Kalymnos held the annual commemoration of the “Petropolemos,”on Palm Sunday, April 5, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., immediately after the Divine Liturgy, in the courtyard of the Church of Panagia Kecharitomeni in Chora.
His Eminence Metropolitan Paisios attended the event and conducted a memorial service, while the keynote speech was delivered by philologist Theofilos Tsoukalas.
The anniversary marks 91 years since the national-religious uprising of the people of Kalymnos in April 1935, which culminated in the killing of Manolis Kazonis and symbolizes resistance against Italian occupation.
The ceremony included a minute of silence followed by the Greek National Anthem performed by the Municipal Philharmonic, honoring the memory of those who fought for freedom.
