A new phishing attempt is circulating, in which scammers send misleading messages falsely claiming to come from a public authority and informing recipients that they are entitled to a tax refund.
The message, which features the Greek national emblem, states that the annual tax calculation has been completed and that the recipient is eligible for a refund. It urges users to click on a link to “verify their details” so that the payment can supposedly be processed within two working days.
This is a classic phishing scam, designed to steal personal and banking information. The link leads to a fake website that imitates official government platforms.
Authorities remind citizens that:
- Public services never request passwords or bank details via email or messages.
- Tax refunds are processed only through official platforms such as myAADE.
- Suspicious links should never be opened and personal data should not be entered.
Citizens are advised to delete such messages immediately and report them as fraudulent. Increased vigilance is recommended, especially during periods when digital services and tax-related communications are more frequent.
