The Ministry of Health has begun sending SMS and email notifications informing citizens of the extension of validity for referrals related to cardiovascular risk screening until March 31, 2026, under the national prevention programme “PROLAMVANO”. The referrals were originally due to expire on December 31, 2025.
The extension allows beneficiaries to schedule their preventive check-ups during the new year, aiming at early detection and management of cardiovascular diseases, which the World Health Organization identifies as the leading cause of death worldwide.
The programme is addressed to all citizens aged 30 to 70 who hold a social security number (AMKA), regardless of insurance status, and offers free preventive medical examinations.
The screening includes:
- blood tests (cholesterol, triglycerides, glucose, complete blood count),
- lipoprotein(a) testing,
- kidney function assessment for individuals with hypertension or diabetes,
- medical evaluation by a personal doctor, cardiologist, general practitioner or internist.
In cases of increased Body Mass Index (BMI), additional medical assessment for obesity management is provided, and pharmaceutical treatment may be prescribed where medically indicated. If abnormal findings are detected, further cardiological examinations are carried out, including tests for coronary artery disease.
