Major Infrastructure and Healthcare Projects Announced During Prime Minister’s Visit to Rhodes
RHODES – A new chapter of growth and development is opening for the Dodecanese islands following the announcements made by Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis during his visit to Rhodes, according to Dodecanese MP Ioannis Pappas.
Mr. Pappas described the Prime Minister’s visit as a strong indication that the challenges and priorities of Greece’s island communities are now at the heart of national planning and development policies.
Among the key initiatives announced are the redevelopment of the former Rhodes General Hospital site, the construction of a new state-of-the-art hospital on Kos with secured funding, and the modernization of Rhodes Port.
Particular attention is being given to the long-awaited redevelopment of the former Rhodes Hospital complex, an important landmark that has remained unused for more than two decades. The project is expected to create new public spaces, services and investment opportunities for local residents and businesses.
Healthcare improvements also feature prominently in the government’s plans, including the advancement of the new Kos Hospital project and the ongoing development of the Dodecanese Radiotherapy Center, which will provide residents with access to critical medical services closer to home.
Meanwhile, the planned upgrade of Rhodes Port is expected to strengthen the island’s position as a leading tourism, transport and cruise hub in the Eastern Mediterranean, delivering significant economic benefits to the region.
According to Mr. Pappas, the announcements demonstrate a clear commitment to transforming long-standing demands of island communities into concrete projects that will improve quality of life, healthcare services and economic opportunities across the Dodecanese.
