The procession of the Epitaphs on Good Friday takes place to honor the Burial of Christ and is one of the most moving customs of the Orthodox Christian tradition. As in all of Orthodox Greece, so too in Kalymnos, the procession of the Epitaphs takes place on Good Friday. The faithful follow with reverence, holding candles, in an atmosphere of devotion and mourning. In the main square of the island, the Epitaphs from different parishes meet, creating an impressive and emotional scene.
