The new Local Government Code was discussed during today’s Regional Council meeting, highlighting the importance of the forthcoming institutional reform for the operation of Regions and Municipalities.
As noted during the session, this reform constitutes a significant change affecting responsibilities, accountability, and the day-to-day cooperation between local authorities and citizens, shaping a new framework for governance and public service delivery.
Kalymnos District Governor Manolis Mousellis emphasized that local government needs clear rules, less bureaucracy, and greater efficiency. He noted that the new Code represents an opportunity for meaningful progress, provided that dialogue continues and special attention is given to the needs of island communities.
