Working Meeting at the Metropolitan Church of the Transfiguration of the Savior, Kalymnos
A working meeting was held Tuesday, September 16th, 2025, at the Holy Metropolitan Church of the Transfiguration of the Savior in Pothia, Kalymnos, with the participation of His Eminence Metropolitan Paisios of Kalymnos, Leros, and Astypalaia, Ms. Eleni Pharmakidou, Acting Head of the Ephorate of Antiquities of the Dodecanese, and Mr. Michail Koutellas, Head Archaeologist of the Kalymnos Archaeological Office.
The meeting focused on monitoring and coordinating key restoration interventions concerning the church, specifically:
- Conservation and restoration of the Episcopal Throne, the Pulpit, and the Iconostasis.
A relevant Programmatic Agreement has already been signed, and a Monitoring Committee has been established. Implementation by the Ephorate of Antiquities is expected to begin shortly.
- Structural and architectural restoration study of the church building, following a recent announcement by the Regional Governor, Mr. Hatzimarkos.
The process of drafting a new Programmatic Agreement is underway to ensure the structural integrity and preservation of this important cultural monument.
The collaboration between all involved stakeholders reflects a shared commitment to preserving and highlighting one of Kalymnos’ most significant historical and religious landmarks.
