In his address to the Parliamentary Group of SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance, President Socrates Famellos strongly criticized the Mitsotakis government, accusing it of leading Greece into a social, economic, and institutional dead end. He denounced the ruling New Democracy party for corruption, cronyism, and abandoning vital sectors of society, including farmers, workers, and pensioners.
He called the 2026 state budget unfair and class-biased, pointing to reduced funding for agriculture and increased profits for big business. He highlighted the cost-of-living crisis, collapse of the welfare state, and erosion of democratic institutions like the judiciary and parliament.
Famellos presented SYRIZA’s fully costed proposals, including a reduction in VAT on food and medicine, reinstatement of the 13th and 14th salaries for public workers, a stronger welfare system, and energy reforms through a publicly-owned power company (PPC).
He emphasized the urgent need for political change and unity among progressive forces, urging cooperation between left-wing and center-left parties. His vision of a “Progressive Greece” is rooted in social justice, democracy, and sustainable development.
