Former OPEKEPE president Nikos Salatas made serious revelations about the state of the organization during an interview on “Kontra Channel.” He spoke about the collapse of the organization’s IT system in 2022–2023, which paved the way for mismanagement and fraud. He stressed the need for OPEKEPE to become an independent authority, free from political influence, while denouncing chronic understaffing, lack of pastureland mapping, and political pressures. He also addressed tensions with the European Public Prosecutor’s Office, firmly denying accusations of obstructing investigations. He concluded with a warning that unless immediate reforms are made, EU funding is at risk.
