Through a parliamentary intervention addressed to two Ministers, Dodecanese MP Manos Konsolas highlights a serious safety issue concerning a public services building in the Zephyros area of Rhodes.
According to the MP, structural safety inspections carried out by regional authorities and an independent engineering firm reached the same conclusion: the building lacks adequate structural integrity to withstand a strong earthquake. The building was constructed before the current seismic regulations came into force, while Rhodes is known for its high seismic activity.
Mr. Konsolas calls for an immediate inspection by the Organization for Anti-Seismic Planning and Protection (OASP), noting that dozens of employees and citizens use the building daily. If the findings are confirmed, he proposes examining the construction of a new building by KTiYP S.A., as well as alternative solutions for temporarily housing the affected public services.
The building currently hosts services of the Ministry of Finance, the South Aegean Region, the Decentralized Administration of the Aegean, and the Ministry of Education.
