Municipality of Kalymnos Honors KEDASY for Special Education Award Distinction
During a special ceremony held at Kalymnos Town Hall, Mayor Yiannis Mastrokoukos welcomed the Head of KEDASY Kalymnos, Irini Diadou, along with the center’s scientific staff, congratulating them on winning the Silver Award at the Special Education Awards competition.
According to the Municipality’s press release, the mayor chose to personally recognize the contribution of KEDASY, highlighting the importance of the distinction for an institution that serves as a key pillar of support for the educational community of Kalymnos and neighboring islands including Leros, Patmos, Astypalaia, Agathonisi, Leipsoi, and Arkoi.
Particular emphasis was placed on the initiatives implemented during the 2024–2025 period, including empathy workshops, stress-management interventions, and support programs for students, parents, and teachers. Special mention was also made of awareness campaigns focusing on disability and autism, which promote strong messages of inclusion throughout society.
The Municipality of Kalymnos stressed that the work of KEDASY, which has supported hundreds of students and families, proves that inclusion is not merely an educational policy but a daily social practice.
In his remarks, Mayor Yiannis Mastrokoukos congratulated Irini Diadou and the entire KEDASY team, stating that the award represents recognition of a deeply meaningful social contribution and a project that “deserves everyone’s support.”
