The incident occurred on Friday, October 17, 2025, when an Italian climber was injured while climbing at Sikati Cave on Kalymnos.
At 11:35 a.m., the Operations Center of the Fire Service informed the Volunteer Fire Station of Kalymnos via the 112 emergency line. A Rescue Team was immediately assembled, consisting of four members of the Volunteer Fire Station and five rescuers from the KALYMNOS RESCUE TEAM.
The team reached the remote and steep area, located the injured climber, provided first aid, and stabilized him. Using a stretcher, they began transporting him to the nearest accessible point.
After a demanding rescue operation lasting about three hours, the injured climber was handed over to an ambulance of the National Emergency Center (EKAB) of Kalymnos, which transported him to the Kalymnos Hospital. There, doctors confirmed a lower limb injury and provided immediate medical care.
The rescue operation was successfully completed thanks to the coordinated cooperation of the Kalymnos Volunteer Fire Station, the KALYMNOS RESCUE TEAM, EKAB Kalymnos, and the Kalymnos Hospital.
