The Central Committee of SYRIZA – Progressive Alliance adopted a unanimous resolution expressing solidarity with the people of Cuba during its meeting on Saturday, March 21, 2026.
In the resolution, SYRIZA describes the Cuban people as a “symbol of dignity and resistance” and reiterates its longstanding opposition to the decades-long economic embargo imposed by the United States, stating that it primarily affects the Cuban population.
The party condemns the latest U.S. measures, which it says further intensify the blockade and have already led to serious shortages of fuel, medicines, and basic goods. It also criticizes statements and threats regarding potential military intervention in Cuba, describing them as violations of international law and the UN Charter.
The resolution calls for the immediate lifting of the embargo and all unilateral sanctions, urging the international community to actively support the implementation of relevant United Nations resolutions.
SYRIZA also calls on the Greek government to use its position within the European Union and as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council to actively support UN General Assembly decisions advocating the end of the embargo.
Finally, the party states that it will undertake initiatives in the Greek Parliament, the European Parliament, and within society, supporting mobilizations and solidarity campaigns for the Cuban people.
