SYRIZA raises concerns over Supreme Court Prosecutor’s role in wiretapping case
Athens, May 2, 2026 — SYRIZA–Progressive Alliance has strongly criticized the Prosecutor of the Supreme Court over his handling of the wiretapping case, following a report published by in.gr.
According to the party’s statement, the prosecutor—who allegedly signed surveillance orders linked to Predator spyware—failed to investigate both the existence of a unified EYP–Predator operation center and his own potential involvement. SYRIZA argues that this raises serious conflict-of-interest concerns, as the same individual appears to act as both investigator and subject of investigation.
The statement also questions why no replacement procedure was followed, despite indications of bias, citing legal provisions and public interventions by constitutional experts challenging the legitimacy of the process.
SYRIZA warns that such actions undermine the rule of law and calls for accountability, while also referencing the Athens Bar Association’s decision to request the prosecutor’s resignation.
