A delegation from the European Parliament’s Committee on Petitions (PETI) will visit Greece from Monday, September 21, to Wednesday, September 23, 2026, to examine the lessons learned from the Tempi railway disaster.
The collision between a passenger train and a freight train in February 2023 claimed the lives of 57 people and exposed serious shortcomings in the operation and safety of Greece’s railway system.
During the three-day visit, Members of the European Parliament will meet representatives of national and regional authorities. They will be briefed on the measures introduced following the tragedy and the progress made in improving railway safety across the country.
The PETI delegation’s visit brings the Tempi disaster back into the European spotlight, focusing attention on the need for meaningful reforms, effective oversight mechanisms and a genuinely safe railway network.
