G. Nikitiadis: Renovations and wall painting called inaugurations – The real needs of the Rhodes Hospital remain unmet
The communication tactics of the government, with inauguration ceremonies for the “renovation” of clinics at the General Hospital of Rhodes, were criticized in a statement by PASOK MP for the Dodecanese and former Deputy Minister of Culture–Tourism, Giorgos Nikitiadis. The Dodecanese MP stated that New Democracy presents makeshift interventions as “major projects,” while the hospital’s essential needs—staffing with doctors and nurses and modern medical technology—remain unmet.
Mr. Nikitiadis’ statement is as follows:
“At the Rhodes Hospital, which was founded and completed by PASOK, instead of the government providing real solutions with permanent medical and nursing staff and modern medical technology, it labels superficial works as a ‘historic upgrade.’
At the same time, for the absolutely basic issues such as the supply of new medical equipment, there is only a… proposal submission to the NSRF, when in fact this should have been the starting point. Meanwhile, in Rhodes, ND staged an inauguration fiesta for the ‘renovation’ of clinics, cutting ribbons after painting walls.
The Rhodes Hospital and the hospitals of our islands do not need communication shows and ribbon-cutting. They need genuine public investments in health, not privatizations as ND prefers. They need staffing, fully functional clinics, and state-of-the-art equipment. All the things ND has not provided and is not willing to provide.
PASOK proved with tangible work that it supported the National Health System, which it created. New Democracy is dismantling it, covering up the collapse with fiestas.”
