A memorable cultural evening took place in Kalymnos during the 1st Student Folk Dance Festival, held at the Open Theater of Chora, attracting students, teachers, parents, and numerous spectators.
The event became a vibrant celebration of Greek tradition, as primary school students performed folk dances representing regions from all across Greece — including Crete, Macedonia, Pontus, Thrace, Epirus, the Dodecanese, and the North Aegean.
Participating schools included the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th, and 6th Primary Schools of Pothia, Panormos Primary School, Argos Primary School, and the 2nd Primary School of Chora Kalymnos. Students presented traditional dances such as Maleviziotis, Tsamikos, Ikariotikos, Omal, and Zervos of Karpathos.
One of the most emotional moments of the evening came during the final communal dance, featuring the traditional Kalymnian dances “Isso” and “Sousta,” followed by commemorative awards for all participants.
In the welcoming message, organizers emphasized that the event aimed to unite students and the local community through culture and tradition, promoting cooperation, creativity, and respect for Greece’s cultural heritage.
The evening clearly showed that younger generations continue to preserve and honor the rich traditions of their homeland.
