On Thursday, June 26, 2025, the ladies visited the Cultural Center and the Folklore Museum of the Lyceum Club of Greek Women of Kalymnos:
- Lily Storm from California, who teaches mathematics at an elementary school, but also teaches singing to adults. She has also founded her own choir, sings herself, and gives performances.
- Kimberly Dimattia from Pennsylvania, who teaches at a middle school for children “gifted” with a high IQ. She is also the conductor of Ms. Lily Storm’s choir.
These two ladies are united by their involvement with music.
While staying in Kalymnos, they showed particular interest in the traditional musical timbre of our island. Mr. Giorgos Roussos referred them to the Lyceum Club of Greek Women of Kalymnos (L.E.K.) to obtain reliable information.
At our center, they were welcomed by the Vice President, Mrs. Stella Koutroumani, who provided them with extensive information in English about traditional music and our traditional songs.
Mrs. Anastasia Kavoukli, a long-time member of the L.E.K. Traditional Song Group, sang several of these songs with her distinctive voice and style.
Both ladies expressed their satisfaction, warmly thanking Mrs. Koutroumani and Mrs. Kavoukli.
Once again, it is proven that music in general knows no borders, and its boundaries are not limited by a place’s geographical coordinates. Traditional music, in particular, travels everywhere when there are people who love it, study it, and care about sharing it.
On behalf of the Board of Directors,
The President,
Kalliopi Kassara-Trikili
