The Board of Directors of the Medical Association of the Kalymnos District held a full-session teleconference yesterday with the Mayor of Leros, Timotheos Kottakis, and the Administrator of the Leros State Therapeutic Hospital, Stamatis Kardasis, to discuss the serious challenges facing the island’s hospital.
The discussion highlighted critical understaffing issues and major shortages in key medical specialties, including the complete absence of cardiologists in the cardiology department.
Participants agreed that a delegation will travel to Athens to meet with Minister of Health Adonis Georgiadis, aiming to secure immediate solutions and strengthen the hospital’s medical capacity.
