Giannis Pappas raised a parliamentary issue regarding the lease fees charged to businesses for the granting of simple use of the seashore (coastal zone). He argues that the current calculation method has resulted in excessive and unrealistic increases—often exceeding four times the amounts in force up to 2023—creating serious distortions and placing a disproportionate burden on legally operating businesses that make mild use of the coastal area.
He adds that the fees do not reflect real economic conditions and, in some cases, approach or even exceed the market value of neighboring properties. Pappas also stresses that the measure was transitional and expired at the end of 2025, warning that any extension would entrench existing injustices, undermine legal certainty, and hinder financial and investment planning in the tourism sector.
Through his parliamentary intervention, he calls for:
- no extension of the transitional measure,
- a review and amendment of the rent-calculation method based on realistic criteria,
- immediate correction of the distortions that have emerged.
