The Deputy Governor of Kalymnos, Emmanouil Mousellis, has officially requested the upgrade of the Volunteer Fire Station (Class B) of Kalymnos to a full Fire Brigade Unit.
The request, submitted to the Ministry for Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, is based on documented operational needs, including over 25 annual rescues of climbers, recurring wildfires and floods, the presence of SEVEZO III high-risk facilities, and logistical delays from Kos.
Given Kalymnos’ status as an international climbing and tourist destination with a summer population over 28,000, the upgrade aims to ensure professional, immediate civil protection services.
