Kalymnos Opens Compensation Process for Residents Hit by Devastating Wildfire
Applications are now being accepted for damage assessments and financial assistance following the wildfire that struck Kalymnos on July 30, 2026.
The Municipality of Kalymnos announced that the process was activated after the affected area was officially placed under a civil-protection state of emergency by the Secretary-General for Civil Protection.
Residents whose primary homes or household belongings were damaged may be eligible for:
- A one-off emergency payment of €600 to cover immediate living needs when a damaged home is no longer habitable.
- An additional €600 for large families and people with disabilities who receive welfare benefits.
- Financial assistance of up to €6,000 for replacing household belongings or carrying out minor repairs.
- For secondary residences, the relevant assistance is reduced by 50%.
Depending on the type of assistance requested, applicants must submit an application form, their latest E1 income-tax declaration and, where required, their E9 property declaration, certification from the Fire Service or a reassessment report issued by the competent natural-disaster recovery authority. Additional supporting documents are required for large families and disability-benefit recipients.
The application deadline is 45 days from the date of the wildfire. Documents may be submitted in person at the Municipality’s Secretariat from Monday to Friday, between 8:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., or by email to mok@kalymnos.gr.
Claims involving businesses, commercial premises, goods, machinery, crops, livestock, agricultural capital or farming infrastructure must be submitted to the competent committees of the South Aegean Regional Authority and through the arogi.gov.gr platform.
The Municipality of Kalymnos will provide guidance to affected residents and assist with forwarding the required application files to the responsible authorities.
