ENACT S.A. to Handle Waste Transport
The project for the Waste Transfer Station (SMA) in Kalymnos is moving forward once again, as the Regional Unit of Kalymnos announced the imminent installation of the contractor company that will undertake the transfer and transportation of the island’s municipal waste.
According to the press release, this development marks a significant step toward implementing the interim waste management solution for Kalymnos, aiming to ease the current burdened situation while safeguarding public health and environmental protection.
Under decisions made by the South Aegean Waste Management Authority (FODSA), ENACT S.A. has been selected as the project contractor and will be responsible for both the waste transfer operations and the sea transportation of waste to the island of Kos.
The Regional Unit noted that the resumption of works signals a transition from prolonged stagnation to the implementation of a project considered crucial for the island, one that has long been a standing demand of the local community and institutions.
Authorities also stressed that they will continue to closely monitor the project’s progress in order to ensure the fastest possible completion and operation of the Waste Transfer Station for the benefit of residents and the environment.
