On May 8th, 2025, an official email from the City of Tarpon Springs was sent to the Mayor of Kalymnos, Ioannis Mastrokoukos, and to local news sites, Kalymnos News and Kalymnos Times, to inform the people of Kalymnos and their representatives and express the City’s discontent about Kalymnos Municipal Council Vice Chairperson Chris Alahouzos and former Tarpon Springs Mayor.
The City of Tarpon Springs states that he has no authority to represent Tarpon Springs and its Sister City program. Therefore, he should not have expressed any intention to initiate a twinning with Port de Bouc during the twinning ceremony between Kalymnos and Port de Bouc last month.
Furthermore, according to the same email, the City has requested the return of 14 Tarpon Springs twinning gifts that were missing after Mr. Alachouzos’ term in office ended. In response to the request, Mr. Alachouzos has declared he has no recollection of the whereabouts of the particular items.
