Dodecanese MP Manos Konsolas submitted a parliamentary intervention to the Ministers of National Defence and Health, calling for an immediate solution to the challenges faced by Armed Forces personnel and their families in island and border regions regarding diagnostic tests. Due to a lack of proper equipment and medical specialties at local military health units (e.g., in Rhodes), personnel are forced to pay part of the cost at public hospitals or resort to private diagnostic centers.
Mr. Konsolas proposes:
- Abolishing the 15% patient contribution or having the Ministry of Defence fully cover the expense.
- Signing contracts with private diagnostic centers in island and remote regions.
He also highlights that Law 5195/2025 (Article 34, par. 2) already allows Military Hospitals to contract private centers for such services.
