Maria Magkoulia to Wear the National Colours Again
Another major international distinction awaits Maria Magkoulia and Kalymnian athletics, as the Greek champion prepares to represent her country in two prestigious international track and field competitions.
The Hellenic Athletics Federation, SEGAS, has finalised the Greek national team for the Mediterranean Games, which will take place in Taranto, Italy, from 30 August to 3 September 2026. Maria Magkoulia is among the athletes selected to represent Greece, securing yet another important international presence for Kalymnos.
The leading Kalymnian athlete, coached by Giannis Barlis, will also compete as a member of the Greek national team at the European Athletics Championships, scheduled to be held in Birmingham from 10 to 16 August 2026.
Her latest selection is the culmination of an outstanding competitive season and the systematic work she continues to undertake alongside her coach. It also demonstrates that a small island such as Kalymnos can produce elite athletes and make a meaningful contribution to Greece’s representation on the international sporting stage.
Maria Magkoulia is preparing to raise the Greek flag high once again, with Kalymnians across the world proudly standing behind her.
