Funding Approved for the Procurement of Two Mobile Climbing Towers in Kalymnos
A major step forward in strengthening climbing tourism in Kalymnos has been achieved with the approval of a project under the “South Aegean 2021–2027” Operational Programme, totaling €205,890, co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
The project involves acquiring two mobile climbing towers, up to 6.5 meters high, equipped with multiple routes, artificial grips, and automatic belay systems. These towers will be used for training, school activities, sports programs, and climbing demonstrations.
This initiative is part of the Municipality’s broader strategy, led by Mayor Giannis Mastrokoukos, to promote youth development, outdoor sports, and Kalymnos’ identity as a world-class climbing destination.
“Climbing is part of Kalymnos’ soul. With these towers, we bring the sport closer to our youth, to inspire them to love the mountain and the outdoors,” said the Mayor.
