PASOK MP for the Dodecanese, George Nikitiadis, responded to a recent article by Dora Bakoyannis regarding the housing crisis in tourist areas and her proposal that local businesses should contribute to its resolution—particularly referencing Kos. Nikitiadis criticized the New Democracy government for its failure to implement a coherent housing policy, stressing that island entrepreneurs should not be expected to bear the burden of state inadequacy.
He highlighted the already high taxes, seasonal economic pressure, and lack of access to financing for small businesses. He also accused the government of lacking a serious legislative framework for short-term rentals and failing to introduce meaningful housing support, in contrast to PASOK, which he claims has already proposed specific policies for social housing and special housing programs.
