Kalymnos Mayor Issues Urgent Appeal for Reinforcement of the Local Court
In an urgent letter addressed to the Minister of Justice and key institutional stakeholders, Mayor of Kalymnos Ioannis Mastrokoukos warns of the critical state of operations at the Kalymnos First Instance Court, requesting immediate action to address the issue.
According to the letter, the court is currently operating with only one administrative staff member, making it impossible to ensure the smooth processing of cases and leading to severe delays in the delivery of justice — especially in matters of significant social and family importance, such as child support, custody, divorce, and civil disputes.
The Mayor highlights that this situation violates fundamental citizens’ rights, and urgently calls for the secondment of additional staff and the establishment of permanent positions with special consideration for Kalymnos.
“Maintaining the current conditions is equivalent to excluding an entire community from meaningful access to justice,” said Mr. Mastrokoukos, stressing that justice cannot rely on the presence of a single employee, especially on an island facing increased social challenges.
He calls on the Ministry of Justice to take immediate and effective action.
