It is the time of year when folks here and there seem to feel genuine love for everyone around them and beyond….and so it happens that Trump loves Putin …. Putin loves Zelensky …and all three love Netanyahu…Together they play their favourite sport…SQUEEZE PEOPLE OUT OF EXISTENCE……quite popular as of late…!
Meanwhile, the festive lights contest is at its peak with the great cities of the world competing to outdo one another with the brightest, highest and most extraordinary light compositions ever…. leaving the backstreets and alleys alone in the dark to continue their activities unperturbed….
Toys parade in shop windows, billboards and websites luring their young targets, along with all kinds of “must” commodities displayed to tempt and prompt….. Yet, children still light matches until they freeze to death, or sing carols to earn a few dimes for bread, or drown under overturned dinghies that carried one too many in deadly crossings across the seas….
Amidst these phenomena, as the year is coming to a close to let the new one in, the long-standing tradition of making resolutions revisits the minds of the hopeful and considerations, options are placed under scrutiny to decide what best to resolve to do, stop doing, and/or begin……Nothing may come to pass, but the purpose of the tug is to remind you of what you tend to forget….
Having said all that, is the merry season hopeful? Well, I see someone counting his meagre earnings, calculating with the utmost concentration the foodstuffs he can afford for the holiday family feast; stressful, yes! However, life is hopeful…it always is when the spirit is kept high, when people remember to smile and hug their children, when friends get together, even if it is simply to express exasperation anddisappointment; they do so together….and they laugh!! Then one may suggest a pantomime or a roleplay and before long they know they’ve won the right to be merry despite it all …..and, I would have you know, this merriment will give them the strength not to succumb!!!
Merry Christmas and May the New Year be Merrier (!!!!)
