Kalymnos strengthens ties with Kos, Leros, Astypalea, Patmos, Samos, and Rhodes
The Hellenic Ministry of Shipping and Island Policy has announced the new national ferry contract program for the period November 2025 to October 2029, with Kalymnos featured as a key hub in the Dodecanese maritime network.
The routes, awarded through an open international tender, aim to enhance island connectivity, local mobility, and tourism development.
A total of 11 ferry routes will include Kalymnos, linking the island directly with Kos, Leros, Psérimos, Astypalea, Rhodes, Samos, Patmos, Leipsoi, and Agathonisi.

Free Transport for Island Residents
The contract provides for free transportation for permanent residents of Psérimos and Astypalea on selected routes, ensuring year-round access to essential services and inter-island movement.
Contract Duration & Funding
Each contract will be valid for 4 years, with the possibility of annual fare adjustments. The program is funded under the National Development Program (2026–2029) and co-financed by the Public Investment Program (PIP), with a total budget ranging between €490 and €540 million (excl. VAT).
Strategic Role for Kalymnos
Kalymnos will play a central role in the Dodecanese maritime grid, facilitating both local commuting and broader tourism circulation. With increased frequency during summer months and strategic links to Rhodes, Kos, and Piraeus, the island is expected to benefit significantly in terms of accessibility, economy, and daily life.
