Professional fishermen across Greece have until September 15 to apply for a new €16 million funding program aimed at improving safety, working conditions, and infrastructure on fishing vessels.
According to an announcement by Dodecanese MP Manos Konsolas, the program supports investments and upgrades on fishing boats, helping fishermen modernize equipment and improve onboard conditions.
Eligible expenses include:
- Safety equipment.
- Personal protective equipment.
- Improvements to onboard working and hygiene conditions.
- Refrigeration and cooling systems for preserving fish quality.
- Purchase of vehicles for the safe transportation of fishery products.
Applications must be submitted electronically through opske.gr, with a minimum project budget of €5,000.
Up to 85% Funding for Island Fishermen
The program offers particularly attractive funding rates for fishermen operating in remote Greek islands. Vessel owners may receive grants covering up to 85% of eligible project costs.
For small-scale coastal fishing vessels under 12 meters in length that do not use trawling gear, support reaches 80%, rising to 85% in remote island regions.
The initiative is expected to strengthen the competitiveness of Greece’s fishing sector while improving safety standards and product quality across the industry.
