Emergency Call for More EKAB Staff in the Dodecanese – Manos Konsolas Urges Immediate Reinforcement
Dodecanese MP Manos Konsolas has called on the Greek Minister of Health to strengthen the National Emergency Medical Service (EKAB) across the Dodecanese, stressing that the sharp increase in visitors during the tourist season has significantly raised emergency healthcare demands.
According to the MP, the Dodecanese is among Greece’s leading tourist destinations, with a substantial seasonal population increase resulting in a heavier workload for EKAB units operating in Rhodes, Kos, Kalymnos, Leros and Karpathos.
Mr. Konsolas argues that the current seasonal staff transfers are insufficient and proposes two immediate measures:
- recruiting additional auxiliary healthcare personnel, including EKAB paramedics, through the ongoing recruitment process,
- and assigning more paramedics and ambulance crews to EKAB units serving the five islands during the summer season.
He also calls for a broader operational plan to reinforce EKAB services in the Dodecanese, including the establishment of new EKAB units in Embonas and at Rhodes International Airport, aiming to improve emergency response times for both residents and the growing number of visitors.
The intervention is accompanied by the full text of the parliamentary question submitted to the Ministry of Health regarding the reinforcement of EKAB personnel across the Dodecanese.
