Kalymnos Mayor Responds to Galouzis: ‘Sports Need Cooperation, Not Personal Confrontation’
Kalymnos Mayor Ioannis Mastrokoukos has responded to a public letter by municipal councilor Michalis Galouzis, defending the municipality’s management of sports affairs and the role of Dimitris Volonakis. In his statement, the mayor stressed that constructive and well-documented opposition is an essential element of local democracy, while emphasizing that sports-related decisions are handled through established institutional structures, including the Deputy Mayor for Sports and the relevant municipal bodies.
Mastrokoukos also defended Volonakis, describing him as a respected sports figure with a long record of voluntary contribution to local youth, sports clubs, and the wider Kalymnian community. He noted that the Municipal Authority has established a dedicated working group on sports issues to make use of the expertise and experience of individuals actively involved in the field.
Addressing concerns about the municipal swimming pool and sports facilities, the mayor stated that the administration remains committed to resolving existing issues with responsibility, transparency, and respect for citizens. He concluded by calling for cooperation, mutual respect, and productive dialogue in order to advance Kalymnos’ development and better serve future generations.
