The Municipal Port Fund of Kalymnos issued a statement in response to allegations made by SAOS Ferriesk regarding the berthing position assigned to the ROPAX vessel Saonisos.
SAOS Ferries claims that the allocated northern berth at the port of Kalymnos poses significant risks to vessel safety, citing incidents such as anchor entanglement and docking difficulties during adverse weather. The complaint was also submitted to the Prosecutor of Kos, with a warning to suspend routes to Kalymnos unless a safer position is granted.
In its official response, the Kalymnos Port Authority stated:
“We have taken note of the so-called complaint regarding the Municipal Port Fund. With the express reservation of all our legal rights, particularly in relation to any unlawful behavior, we emphasize that our foremost priority is the public interest, safety, and the service of the needs of our border island, in full compliance with the applicable legal provisions.
Every request concerning the operation of the Port of Kalymnos is handled institutionally and with absolute transparency. This is also reflected in the attached correspondence that has been sent to the ‘complaining’ company.
We categorically reject any defamatory or intimidating practices. We act with consistency and transparency, and with strict adherence to legality. And we will continue to do so.”
The case remains under observation by relevant authorities, with no formal intervention from the Ministry of Shipping as of now.
