According to a press release on 25-6-2024, the Municipal Faction “Nea Kalymnos” has decided to abstain from the upcoming Municipal Council and Committee meetings. Following the explosive session on May 21, 2024, they claim that the degradation of institutions, the opposition in the municipal council, and the non-compliance with laws, even on basic issues such as the formation of municipal council committees, have led to the approval of unlawful decisions, taking advantage of the majority of 15 councilors.
Additionally, they believe that the process of special municipal council sessions, which involve the mayor’s accountability to the representatives of the people through questions, as stipulated by the new law, has been degraded and turned into an exclusive monologue by the mayor.
