During the session of the Municipal Council of the Municipality of Kalymnians on 17-2-2026, it was decided that the Open-Air Theatre of Chora will be officially named “Katerina Klonari,” in recognition of her long-standing contribution to the cultural and political life of the island.
The decision followed a proposal highlighting her significant role in the development and support of theatre in Kalymnos, as well as her active involvement in public affairs.

Katerina Pelekanou Klonari is an emblematic figure for Kalymnos. Deeply devoted to theatre and the arts, she created the local theatrical group. She participated in cultural associations, and initiatives aimed at promoting local artistic expression.
At the same time, she maintained a strong presence in the island’s political life, serving the community with responsibility and dedication, contributing to initiatives that strengthened tourism, culture, social cohesion, and local development.
During the council meeting, members spoke about her integrity, determination, and commitment to the progress of Kalymnos, emphasizing that naming the Open-Air Theatre after her is a meaningful tribute to her and her proposal for the building of the theatre at Chora, that will bear her name.
The decision was warmly received, as her name is closely linked to the cultural identity of the island.
