Support for the Mobilizations of Private Laboratory Doctors – Protest Rally of POERGI in Athens on November 7
The undersigned Presidents of Medical Associations express their support for all forms of mobilization by Private Laboratory Doctors.
On November 7, a nationwide protest rally has been scheduled in Athens, organized by their Federation (POERGI), in front of the Maximos Mansion.
Private Laboratory Doctors are fighting for:
- the sustainability of their practices,
- the upgrading of Primary Health Care, and
- fair compensation for their services.
We condemn the unfair and unbearable rebate and clawback measures, which:
- impose retroactive and excessive financial returns from doctors,
- undermine the principles of equality and justice,
- directly threaten the viability of small and medium-sized laboratories, and
- are pushing many scientists into financial suffocation and professional decline.
The continuation of this policy undermines citizens’ access to reliable diagnostic services and puts the entire Primary Health Care system at risk.
We call upon:
- All Private Laboratory Doctors to participate en masse in the mobilization.
Local Medical Associations are willing to cover travel expenses.
- Those who cannot travel are encouraged to keep their practices closed on the day of the mobilization.
- Clinical doctors are urged not to issue referrals that day, as a show of solidarity with their colleagues’ struggle.
For years, Private Laboratory Doctors have funded the deficit-ridden EOPYY budget, and it is our duty to actively support their constitutional right to be compensated for the services they provide.
