Important developments regarding the support of women’s entrepreneurship in Greece’s island regions have emerged following a parliamentary intervention by Dodecanese MP Manos Konsolas, addressed to the Minister of Development, Takis Theodorikakos.
Mr. Konsolas proposed the launch of a new funding call aimed at supporting business plans led by women in island areas, with particular emphasis on initiatives that revive traditional professions and activities.
In his response, the Minister of Development announced that in the first months of 2026 a new support scheme titled “Social Entrepreneurship and Handicrafts” will be introduced under the Development Law. The scheme will enable the participation and financial support of women entrepreneurs, focusing on regional development and the preservation of traditional crafts and professions.
The initiative aims to strengthen women in regional and island communities by encouraging the revival of professions that are at risk of disappearing, contributing to sustainable local development.
