In his interview on ERTNEWS, SYRIZA–PS President Sokratis Famellos stated that the party fully supports the farmers’ protests and their “fair demands,” accusing the government of creating a “perfect storm” in the agricultural sector, with collapsing production, the OPEKEPE funding scandal and serious delays in subsidies. He called for stolen or withheld subsidies to be returned to “honest farmers” and for political accountability.
He also strongly criticized the restructuring plan for the Hellenic Post (ELTA), denouncing the closure of post offices, including profitable ones, and referring to government choices as serving partisan and oligopolistic interests rather than the public good.
Regarding Alexis Tsipras’ new book, Famellos described it as an important account that clarifies the 2015–2019 period and argued that it can feed a new, unifying progressive dialogue. He stressed the need for a broad progressive front (including PASOK and other forces) as an alternative governing proposal to New Democracy, saying society “demands a unifying progressive solution.” He confirmed he will attend the book presentation, emphasizing that the goal is not “a better opposition” but the formation of a new progressive government.
