This year’s ferry season is proving to be one of the most challenging in recent years, with a noticeable decline in both passenger and vehicle traffic. The main issues are the high cost of ferry tickets and island accommodation, which discourage long vacations.
According to data from the Ministry of Shipping (Jan–July 2025), passenger traffic dropped by 3.5% and private vehicle transport by 9%. Despite a slight recovery in July–August, losses from the first half of the year were not offset. The situation particularly affects conventional ferries, which operate year-round, unlike high-speed vessels that concentrate operations during the peak summer season.
