The payment process of the Transport Equivalent scheme for island passengers and businesses has been completed, totaling €22.16 million. Of this amount, €12.27 million was paid to 126,984 passengers for sea and air travel between October 1 and December 31, 2024.
Additionally, €9.89 million was allocated to 1,788 businesses for goods transportation costs (July 1–December 31, 2022) under Phase B eligibility. Smaller island businesses and claims up to €2,000 had already been settled.
Maritime Affairs Minister Vasilis Kikilias underlined the scheme’s role in reducing island inequalities, while Deputy Minister Stefanos Gikas announced plans to redesign and modernize the measure.
